A cell phone and WiFi-free lakeside retreat served as the backdrop for Office Partners’ annual bass fishing fundraiser for City of Hope’s National Business Products Industry.
Beginning in 2010, Office Partners has organized this exclusive event. It's not only a great few days of competitive camaraderie in the outdoors, but also a fun means of supporting City of Hope's lifesaving mission.
“Our bass fishing tournament provides a great alternative to the golf outings in the calendar year, especially for those who don’t play golf,” said Matthew Hebert, Office Partners marketing director. “We have fishermen and -women attend the event, ranging from those who have never fished a day in their lives to those who have fished recreationally since they were young.”
Participants travel to Alabama to spend a tranquil few days of fishing at Dream Lake Lodge, about two hours outside of Birmingham. Fishing poles, bait and rain coats are all that’s required for excursion. Participants are also treated to some of the best in southern country cooking.
“Last year, we had a contestant that hadn’t fished for 40 years catch an 11 lb. bass,” said Hebert. “I grew up fishing with my father and his brothers – three of my biggest role models. It’s something that’s totally relaxing and you don’t have to know what you’re doing to catch fish,” he added.
Office Partners does know how fund raise, however. This year, the event raised more than $10,000 for City of Hope.
