ourHope logoSeven years after beating cancer at City of Hope, survivor Tyler Varing learned about ourHope, City of Hope’s online personal fundraising tool. Wanting to give back, Varing saw ourHope as the perfect opportunity to fund raise for pediatric cancer research.

Last year, during ourHope’s annual fundraising campaign, Take it Personal, Varing set up his first personal fundraising page and reached out to his network of family and friends for donations. As part of his fundraising efforts, he ran a half marathon and was able to raise $3,750!

Like Varing, you can make any event in your life (birthday, anniversary, honoring a lost loved one) more special by selecting from ourHope’s six different fundraising page themes. When creating your page you can raise funds for the cause that means the most to you, from leukemia to breast cancer to diabetes and more – there are over 30 different causes to choose from! Personalize your page with photos, video and your story, and share it with family and friends on social media and through email.

And now, from May 1 to June 30, any money raised, up to $100,000, on ourHope, will be doubled, thanks to the generous matching gift from grateful patient Toni Stephenson and her husband, Emmet.

Like Varing, we each have a personal connection to cancer – ourHope offers you the ability to channel that connection and transform it into tangible benefit for our patients.

He says, “I am a proud cancer survivor…To show my appreciation I thought that it would be great to use this new tool to help raise money for the City of Hope…every dollar counts!”

Varing has already created another ourHope fundraising page for this year’s Take it Personal challenge, where he’s hoping to raise at least $1,000 in preparation for an upcoming hike up Mt. Wilson.

In addition to doubling the impact of your fundraising efforts on ourHope from May 1 through June 30, you'll earn a plaque in City of Hope’s Rose Garden by raising at least $2,500, just like Varing did.
