Christine Pechera was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and told by doctors elsewhere that her lifespan likely would be measured in months, not years. Refusing to give up, she came to City of Hope for a second opinion. Here, Christine underwent chemotherapy, radiation and two stem cell transplants. Today, Christine is cancer-free and married, and she has taken her husband to City of Hope and shown him the places that brought her solace and made her feel reconnected to life. "City of Hope has a sense not just of compassion, but of humanity. There’s a humanity that exists on this campus that you can’t find in other hospitals. Almost everyone here has been touched by cancer. They get what you’re going through. They’re here to make a difference." If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with cancer, we can help. Call 800-826-HOPE (4673) for an appointment or second opinion. Our multidisciplinary team of experts and personal care team can take you through your options.
