For the second year, Santa Anita Park will run a Grade 2 Stakes Race, the City of Hope Mile, in honor of the leading cancer research and treatment center. The 2014 race will be Saturday, Oct., 4. Formerly named the Arroyo Seco Mile, this year's event will mark the 29th running of the race; it was first run at Santa Anita in 1986. The race has a guaranteed purse of $200,000.
"The entire team at Santa Anita Park, including our employees, horse owners, trainers and jockeys, is proud to continue this tradition of honoring City of Hope and acknowledging the contribution they make to the lives of people everywhere,' said Nate Newby, Santa Anita Park vice president of marketing. "Running the City of Hope Mile will be just one small way to show our support for this amazing medical center and the incredible work they do."
Watch the race in style by experiencing the Chandelier Room; you'll enjoy it even more, knowing that your purchase is benefiting the lifesaving work at City of Hope. Fifty dollars from every ticket purchased to the Chandelier Room for this event will be donated to City of Hope. Accessed by a private VIP entrance, guests will sample gourmet fare and one-of-a-kind views from the outdoor terrace overlooking the entire racetrack, with the San Gabriel mountains as your backdrop.
