Campaign highlights national and global leaders in the field of cancer treatment and research; aims to increase awareness of institute’s lifesaving mission and impact.
DUARTE, Calif. — For the second year in a row, City of Hope has launched an integrated Chinese-language marketing and outreach campaign to reach the Chinese-American community in Southern California. The multimedia campaign features City of Hope’s world-renowned doctors and researchers highlighting the innovative lifesaving technologies and treatments being developed and implemented to help patients achieve successful outcomes. Among the many leaders and experts at City of Hope are a significant number of Chinese-American researchers, doctors and staff who are leading the way in scientific breakthroughs, surgical innovations and compassionate care that result in lifesaving treatments.
Cancer is a leading cause of death among Asian-Americans; approximately one in three will be diagnosed with cancer in his or her lifetime. Chinese-Americans are most impacted by colorectal, liver and lung cancer. As a world leader in translational research, City of Hope’s pioneering research has led to the development of many lifesaving cancer drugs and treatments — the institute is uniquely poised to provide Chinese-Americans care from global leaders and experts across disciplines.
“Passionate scientists who are original, creative and daring to make discoveries come to City of Hope to work toward the common goal of making a difference in the lives of patients,” said Hua Yu, Ph.D., the Billy and Audrey L. Wilder Professor in Tumor Immunology and associate chair of City of Hope’s Department of Immuno-Oncology. “At City of Hope, you feel the compassion and the drive to do what’s best for patients, their families and caregivers, addressing not just the disease but also the mind and soul. As a scientist, I am here to make major discoveries that will impact the health of everyone. My primary research involves STAT3, a game-changing approach to curing cancer that blocks tumor cell growth and activates the body’s immune system. I work hard every day alongside doctors, nurses and other scientists to move closer to developing the next generation of anti-cancer drugs that can attack cancer on multiple fronts.”
“City of Hope is committed to delivering compassionate, leading-edge and comprehensive cancer care to all communities,” said Len Fong, associate vice president of strategic alliance. “In order to do so, we need to make sure that we are reaching communities in the language that they prefer and through the channels and platforms from which they receive their information. Everyone deserves the best cancer care available and language should not be a barrier to finding the best option possible. City of Hope has world-renowned experts who work hard every day to continuously advance cancer treatment through their medical practice and scientific research.”
