The Division of Urology and Urologic Oncology at City of Hope offers a one-year clinical fellowship in genitourinary cancer survivorship and reconstructive urology. The fellow will be exposed to all facets of urologic cancer survivorship and reconstructive urology.

Abdominal Reconstruction

City of Hope is a high volume cystectomy center and maintains one of the nation's highest percentages of continent urinary diversions. The fellow will have access to over 100 urinary diversion cases per year that will be shared among the oncology fellows. The fellow will be expected to participate in the majority of Indiana pouch and neobladder cases. Additionally, City of Hope is a regional referral center for devastated bladder outlet, complex ureteroenteric strictures and radiation ureteral strictures.

Genital Reconstruction

All aspects of male reconstructive urology are represented in this fellowship. This includes penile prosthesis, male slings (both Virtue and AdVance) and artificial urinary sphincters. The fellow will also learn both clinical and surgical management of Peyronie’s disease. We perform a high volume of urethral strictures, many posterior radiation related strictures. Finally, the fellow will become proficient in complex buried penis repair.

Female Urology/General Urology

The fellow has the unique, optional opportunity to work with a high volume FPMRS trained surgeon who performs over 150 cases per year. These include colpocleisis, robotic sacrocolpopexies and incontinence procedures. The fellow will have the opportunity to learn how to perform the transurethral bipolar enucleation of the prostate. This is a unique opportunity to learn to tackle even the largest of prostates through a transurethral approach. We perform over 100 cases per year.

The fellow will be allotted 20 percent research time. The fellow is expected to present and publish during the year, and will have institutional support to enable this goal.
