It’s a sincere privilege to have the knowledge and ability to help someone through an illness.”

Whether he's tending to patients in South Central Los Angeles, or assisting the personal physician of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II (and he's done both!) Faizi A. Jamal, M.D., welcomes each new challenge. “My job does not feel like work to me,” he says, “because I spend my days meeting people, hearing their stories and participating in their care.”

Dr. Jamal received his medical degree from UC Irvine School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

As a cardiologist, Dr. Jamal pays extra close attention to the side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments that may impact the heart. He focuses his research on earlier detection of cardiotoxicity – damage to the heart muscle – as well as preventative strategies to avoid development of cardiac dysfunction. Working at City of Hope enables him “to pursue my work in cardiology combined with my desire to care for patients with cancer.”
