Dr. Aoun is a board certified pathologist who came to City of Hope from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where she was a tenured professor in the Department of Pathology and Microbiology.
Dr. Aoun graduated magna cum laude from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania with a B.A. in chemistry, and received her medical doctorate from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. She went on to earn a M.P.H. degree from the Columbia School of Public Health in New York. Dr. Aoun then completed an internship in anatomic pathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She was honored by selection as Chief Resident. Dr. Aoun then went on to complete a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.
Dr. Auon is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network's (NCCN) Hodgkin Lymphoma and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Guideline Panels that help set the standard for cancer treatment across the nation. She has written numerous peer reviewed publications and has presented at numerous national and international meetings. Dr. Aoun has also spent considerable time and effort in teaching and mentoring, and has been course director for numerous national courses in hematopathology, including several sponsored by the Society of Hematopathology and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology and in hematopathology.
