Yung Lyou, M.D., Ph.D., is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research specializing in genitourinary cancers, including bladder, prostate, and kidney cancer.

Dr. Lyou chose a career in medicine after watching several close relatives cope with cancer. “Their doctors were able to help my family through some of the most difficult times we experienced,” he recalled. “As a result, this inspired me to become a physician so that I could one day give back and help other cancer patients.”

Dr. Lyou graduated cum laude from Columbia University in New York City. Afterwards, he attended State University of New York Upstate Medical University (SUNY Upstate) in Syracuse, NY and received a combined M.D., Ph.D.. He then completed his internal medicine residency and hematology-oncology fellowship training at University of California Irvine (UCI).

Prior to City of Hope, Dr. Lyou was a staff physician in hematology-oncology at the Veterans Affairs Long Beach and on the faculty at UCI teaching fellows and residents.

Dr. Lyou’s research interests in genitourinary malignancies is focused on using precision medicine, genomics, and big data analytics to improve efficacy in current anti-neoplastic treatments.
