Music, Film and Entertainment’s elite gathered in Santa Monica, California, on Nov. 5 to honor Lucian Grainge CBE, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group as he received City of Hope’s Spirit of Life® Award.
The industry’s year-long fundraising efforts for City of Hope have raised over $6 million.
Nick Cannon, Aloe Blacc, Selena Gomez, Berry Gordy, Bon Jovi, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, Smokey Robinson, Russell Simmons and Will.i.am were among the celebrities expressing gratitude for Grainge’s leadership in the industry and admiration for his philanthropic efforts.
The incomparable Sam Smith gave a surprise performance, serenading guests with his chart-topping hits “Stay With Me” and “I’m Not the Only One.”
The uniqueness of the event goes far beyond its custom built venue, 1300 guests and noteworthy fundraising. It extends to its program journal - an 8 ft. “HOPE” structure. The beautifully crafted wooden piece displayed congratulatory messages from sponsors. It was recently installed at the medical center under the bridge between the Geri & Richard Brawerman Ambulatory Care Center and City of Hope Helford Clinical Research Hospital.
