Mr. Filley joined Behr in 1985 as Corporate Controller, was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 1991, and President in 2002. It’s 1947 and the war is over. The world is getting back to work and a young man named Otho Behr, Jr. is starting his own small business. Out of the back of his “Woody” station wagon, Behr traverses the modest highways of Southern California selling containers of linseed oil to paint stores who sell it as a wood varnish.
70 years later, the humble little venture Behr founded in the family garage has become Behr Process Corporation: a multinational architectural coatings enterprise and a recognized leader in quality, innovation and employee satisfaction. From its first sales at The Home Depot in 1979 to its acquisition by Masco Corporation in 1999, and Behr’s subsequent acquisition of Masterchem Industries in 2000, Behr Process Corporation has remained true to its humble roots and its belief that the strength of the organization lies foremost in its people.
One of the core values instilled in the early days under Otho Behr Jr., Jack Croul and Kevin Jaffe’ is to “give back.” Behr’s long-standing relationship with City of Hope remains an ongoing source of company pride. “We are beyond grateful to be able to support the life-saving treatment and scientific miracles performed every day by City of Hope,” says Behr Process Corporation president Jeff Filley.

Thank you for your very generous support of the fundraising season for City of Hope. I am humbled and grateful to spearhead our industry’s important support for City of Hope this year. On behalf of the National Hardware Homebuilding Council and the entire Behr team, we thank you for your enthusiasm, generosity and industry leadership this year.
I am also extremely proud of the entire Behr team that truly puts forth a remarkable effort in support of City of Hope each and every year. Our collective fundraising success would certainly not be possible without them. Over the course of 2018, Behr associates will raise well over $100,000 through numerous fundraising activities and payroll deductions. We will also engage in our two annual blood drives for City of Hope, providing invaluable product and expense savings to City of Hope and their patients. We will also lead and participate in a number of charitable events this year, including hosting our first annual City of Hope Golf Outing and Business Summit for our supplier partners.
Through it all, our focus will remain on the patients and family members suffering from cancer, diabetes, HIV/Aids and other life threatening diseases, who rely on City of Hope for their life-saving care. Over the past 35 years, City of Hope has effectively utilized our industry’s $150M in support to expedite the development of numerous medical breakthroughs, new therapies and cures that impact the lives of over 100 million patients across the globe each year. The funds we raise are mainly earmarked for seed money, infrastructure and talent to help City of Hoperesearchers expedite the process from new idea to life-saving therapy. Those funds were instrumental in City of Hope’s recent announced goal of curing Type 1 diabetes within six years! That will be Nobel Prize type of stuff, something we can all be proud of.
I hope we can count on you to join the Behr team and commit to supporting City of Hope throughout 2018. Thank you again for your continued friendship, partnership and, especially, for your steadfast support of City of Hope.
