James Slack, M.D., brings his decades of experience in the field of hematologic oncology to City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix, where he specializes in the diagnosis and management of all types and stages of hematologic malignancies and blood disorders. Dr. Slack works as part of a multidisciplinary team of cancer experts offering patients chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and the latest available cellular therapies, including autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. He also plays a key role in City of Hope Phoenix’s bone marrow transplant program.
Dr. Slack earned his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, then completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Minnesota (UM) in Minneapolis. He has also completed multiple research fellowships, first at the UM Institute for Human Genetics, then at the University of Washington’s Department of Biochemistry in Seattle. He completed his medical oncology fellowship at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, also in Seattle.
Board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, Dr. Slack is highly respected in the field of stem cell transplantation and spent multiple years leading the Mayo Clinic Arizona’s bone marrow transplantation program. He joined City of Hope with the goal of bringing high-quality care to more patients in the Southwest and beyond.
