Chief of interventional endoscopy, gastroenterology and nutrition at City of Hope® Atlanta, Kevin E. Woods, M.D., M.P.H., leads the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Program, which offers non-surgical options for detecting, managing and treating gastrointestinal cancers and pre-malignant digestive disorders such as Barrett’s esophagus and gastrointestinal (GI) stromal tumors.
Dr. Woods earned his medical degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, then completed both an internship and residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to joining City of Hope, he held clinical and research fellowships in gastroenterology and hepatology at Massachusetts General Hospital and in advanced endoscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, both in Boston, and led the advanced endoscopic imaging program at Emory University School of Medicine. He also holds a master’s degree in public health from Harvard’s T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
Board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Woods is a scholar-scientist whose research focuses on new clinical technologies used to treat GI-related cancers. He has received many accolades, including recognition as One of the Best Residents and Fellows at Harvard Medical School, the Mentor in Medicine Award from Emory School of Medicine and the Atlanta Medical Association’s Young Physician of the Year. He was honored in 2019 as an Outstanding Georgia Citizen by the state’s governor.
