Kevin Zhang, M.D., is a medical oncologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago, where he specializes in treating patients diagnosed with cancers of the genitourinary (GU) system, including kidney cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Dr. Zhang, who has a particular focus on immunotherapy approaches, is dedicated to ensuring that patients and their loved ones are directly involved with decisions related to their cancer treatment journeys.
Dr. Zhang decided to pursue oncology after an impactful experience working with a breast cancer doctor as an undergraduate. He went on to earn his medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, then completed a residency in internal medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and a hematology-oncology clinical fellowship in Boston at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
In addition to his expertise in GU cancer care and immunotherapy, Dr. Zhang recognizes the importance of understanding his patients’ concerns, values and beliefs. This approach allows him to develop a tailored treatment plan that incorporates their preferences and helps maintain quality of life during treatment.
A physician-scholar with multiples years’ experience in hematology-oncology research, Dr. Zhang has also published peer-reviewed articles on topics including kidney and pancreatic cancer and has presented his research at conferences around the country.
