DUARTE, Calif. — City of Hope today announced two new members to its board of directors. Malissia R. Clinton, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of The Aerospace Corporation, recently joined the board, and Ronald L. Sargent, former chief executive officer of Staples, Inc., will become a director beginning Jan. 1, 2017.

“City of Hope is pleased to welcome two highly accomplished business leaders to help guide our continued commitment to advancing leading-edge research in cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases, and to delivering world-class, patient-centered cancer care,” said City of Hope President and Chief Executive Officer Robert W. Stone. “We will benefit greatly from their experience, expertise and vision as City of Hope continues to build on its legacy of innovation and compassionate care.”

Clinton joined The Aerospace Corporation in 2009 and, since then, she has provided legal advice and counsel at the senior management level, managed corporate transactions of the board of trustees and maintained custody of corporate records. Prior to joining Aerospace, she was senior counsel for special projects in the Office of the General Counsel at Northrop Grumman’s corporate offices.

Before joining Staples, Sargent held a variety of positions at The Kroger Co. He also serves on the boards of The Kroger Co. and Five Below, and is a member of the Board of Governors of Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Inc.

From 2004 to 2008, Sargent was a member of City of Hope’s National Business Products Council, which is charged with spearheading the annual industry fundraising campaign for the institution. Under Sargent’s leadership, Staples donated and raised nearly $15 million for City of Hope.
