DUARTE, Calif. — Today, City of Hope, a world-renowned independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases, announced the spectacular line-up of talent confirmed to take the stage at its Music, Film and Entertainment Industry Group’s 2019 Spirit of Life® Gala, which will honor Epic Records chairman and CEO, Sylvia Rhone. Award-winning recording artists Alicia Keys and Sara Bareilles will join together for a one-of-a-kind duet performance in honor of Rhone. Yolanda Adams will also perform at the event, while Eric H. Holder Jr., 82nd attorney general of the United States will present Rhone with the prestigious award. The event will feature a very special surprise performance from one of Rhone’s most iconic groups. The gala will take place on Thursday, Oct. 10 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

Alicia Keys is a modern-day Renaissance woman — a 15-time Grammy Award-winning artist/songwriter/musician/producer, an accomplished actress, a New York Times bestselling author, a film/television/Broadway producer, an entrepreneur and a powerful force in the world of activism. Since the release of her monumental 2001 debut album, “Songs in A minor,” Keys has sold over 40 million records and built an unparalleled repertoire of hits and accomplishments. Keys resides in the New York City area with her husband, producer/visionary and entrepreneur Swizz Beatz, and their children.
Sara Bareilles first achieved mainstream critical praise in 2007 with her widely successful hit "Love Song,” which reached No. 1 in 22 countries around the world, from her debut album “Little Voice.” Since then, Sara has gone on to receive seven Grammy® nominations, two Tony nominations and three Emmy nominations. Her book “Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) in Song” was released in the fall of 2015 by Simon & Schuster and is a New York Times bestseller. Making her Broadway debut, Sara composed the music and lyrics for “Waitress” and made her Broadway acting debut in 2017 by stepping into the show’s lead role. Recently, Sara teamed up with Apple as an executive producer for “Little Voice,” a 10-episode series that she will create the original music for. On April 5, 2019, Sara released her fifth full-length and first album of original material since 2013, entitled “Amidst the Chaos,” to rave reviews. For this latest body of work, she joined forces in the studio with legendary Academy® Award-winning producer T Bone Burnett. Eric Holder advises clients on complex investigations and litigation matters, including those that are international in scope and involve significant regulatory enforcement issues and substantial reputational concerns. Holder, who was a partner at Covington from 2001 to 2009, rejoined the firm after serving for six years as the 82nd attorney general of the United States.
Before his service as attorney general, Mr. Holder maintained a wide-ranging investigations and litigation practice at Covington. Among numerous significant engagements, he led the firm’s representation of a major multinational agricultural company in related civil, criminal and investigative matters; acted as counsel to a special investigative committee of the board of directors of a Fortune 50 technology company; successfully tried a complex discrimination lawsuit on behalf of a leading financial services company; and represented several life sciences companies in litigation and investigations.
Mr. Holder served as attorney general from February 2009 to April 2015. As the third longest-serving attorney general in U.S. history and the first African American to hold that office, Holder is an
internationally recognized leader across a broad range of regulatory enforcement, criminal justice and national security issues. In 2014, TIME magazine named Mr. Holder to its list of 100 Most Influential People, noting that he had “worked tirelessly to ensure equal justice.”
Including his tenure as attorney general, Holder has served in government for more than 30 years, having been appointed to various positions requiring U.S. Senate confirmation by presidents
Obama, Clinton and Reagan.
