Women's Imaging

Acknowledged as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, City of Hope has radiologists dedicated to breast imaging who specialize in providing compassionate, patient-centered care using the most advanced equipment available.

We offer a full range of imaging for women, bone mineral density scans using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) and three-dimensional mammography, commonly referred to as digital breast tomosynthesis, which has replaced digital mammography as the gold standard of care. This type of screening is critical for women with dense breasts, since higher breast density is known to increase a woman's risk for breast cancer.

An MRI of the breast with dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE) for visualization of kinetic curves allows radiologists to better detect regions of increased vascularity that indicate areas suspect for breast cancer lesions.

As part of a FROST clinical trial, City of Hope offers freezing (cryoablation) of small breast tumors, instead of resection.

Our areas of focus include:

  • Ultrasound of the Breast
  • Screening and Diagnostic Mammography
  • MRI of the Breast
  • MRI of the Breast with dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE)
  • Ultrasound of the Pelvis

City of Hope also provides interventional imaging using state-of-the-art technologies and imaging methods.

Our areas of focus include:

  • Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
  • Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy
  • Fine Needle Aspiration (cyst)
  • Pre-surgical Needle-Wire Localization
  • Galactogram (Ductogram)
  • Drainage Procedures
  • FROST Trial Cryoablation of Breast Tumors
