“I can't say enough about this amazing doctor! Smart, caring...the kind of doctor you can count on.” - Patient

Patients of James S. Andersen, M.D., regularly praise his skill as a surgeon as well as his compassion and humanity.

With over 26 years of surgical experience, Dr. Andersen specializes in reconstructive surgery after cancer treatment, particularly for cancers located in the breast, limbs and head and neck regions.

As head of City of Hope’s Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Andersen and his team employ the latest techniques to produce the best possible results. For example, Dr. Andersen has been able to dramatically enhance the quality and durability of the reconstructed breast by utilizing tissue-sparing techniques combined with transplantation of a patient’s own tissue, dramatically reducing scarring.

Dr. Andersen also specializes in the treatment of lymphedema, a swelling that develops due to the abnormal collection of fluid beneath the skin, most commonly in an arm or leg. This can occur when lymph nodes are removed or damaged during cancer treatment.
