For some 20 years, Peiguo “Jerry” Chu, M.D., Ph.D., has served as one of City of Hope's premier pathologists, analyzing biopsies to diagnose diseases and determine their paths.

Dr. Chu specializes in the detection of gastrointestinal cancers. His research helped determine that the protein glypican 3 can be an accurate biomarker for cancer in livers damaged by cirrhosis.

Dr. Chu received his medical degree in China, where he continues to serve as honorary professor at Beijing University. His training includes postdoctoral work and fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania and Yale Medical School.

A talented instructor and the author of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Chu has trained a generation of pathologists in China and the U.S.
