I became a doctor to help transform disease into an empowering experience for our patients and their families.”

Shira Rosenberg, M.D., cares for children battling cancer and blood diseases, during their hospital stays. She makes a point of getting to know her young patients, right down to the subjects they're studying and their pets' names. As a hospitalist, Dr. Rosenberg takes advantage of her long shifts to connect with parents, answer their questions and provide seamless continuity of care.

Dr. Rosenberg received her medical degree at Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and continued her training with an internship, residency and fellowship at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Her informal training started much earlier. “As a child,” she says, “whenever I saw a television program featuring a surgical procedure, I hid the remote control so that my sisters could not change the channel. Later, after learning that I needed cardiac surgery, I watched enthralled as my cardiologist drew the location of my atrial septal defect on the exam table paper.”

Dr. Rosenberg is a talented educator who's won numerous teaching awards and published several papers on technology as a teaching tool.

At City of Hope, Dr. Rosenberg aims to be a “reassuring face” for her patients and their families.
