Thurmond Scientific Biography
Before joining City of Hope in 2015, Dr. Thurmond was on the faculty at Indiana University for 14 years, rising through the ranks to full professor. IU honored her with its prestigious Research Frontiers Trailblazer Award in 2011. At that institution, she also served as associate director of the Basic Diabetes Group, garnering an NIH T32 grant to support that program, and as Islet Core PI/director for the NIH P30 Core Center Grant in diabetes.
Dr. Thurmond was an NIH-funded postdoctoral fellow under the mentorship of Jeffrey E. Pessin, Ph.D., now at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa under the mentorship of Alan G. Goodridge, Ph.D., and her M.S. and B.S. degrees from the University of California Davis.
