We are committed to finding cures and treatments to diseases that are, for now, incurable.” John A. Zaia, M.D., Director
At City of Hope, we believe the future of medicine can be found deep within each of us – in our own stem cells.
We are very excited about the vast potential of stem cell-based therapies to save lives and fundamentally change the way we treat cancer, diabetes, AIDS and many other diseases.
The Center for Gene Therapy, within the Hematologic Malignancies and Stem Cell Transplantation Institute, is dedicated to unlocking that potential through world-class research, and converting that knowledge into real-world treatments and cures as rapidly as possible.
City of Hope is one of the few institutions capable of this task. We are the largest supplier of therapeutic stem cells in the Western U.S., the result of 40 years' experience performing thousands of bone marrow, cord blood and stem cell transplants. We have the unique ability to collect stem cells on a large scale and manufacture them into novel therapies.
To accelerate this bench-to-bedside approach, the Center for Gene Therapy partners with nursing at City of Hope's Alpha Clinic, a member of the alpha clinics network funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). The Alpha Clinic is intended to accelerate the delivery of stem-cell based therapies to save lives and fundamentally change the way we treat cancer, diabetes, AIDS and many other diseases.
