In his role at City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago, Surgical Oncologist Shen Li, M.D., treats a wide range of conditions, specializing in complex gastrointestinal cancers, soft tissue disease and hepato-pancreato-biliary conditions and using advanced and minimally invasive techniques. When collaborating with his patients’ multidisciplinary cancer care team, Dr. Li brings compassion, clinical expertise and a patient-centered approach to making treatment decisions.
Dr. Li earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pennsylvania, before completing a residency in general surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. In addition to a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, he completed a fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
A physician-scholar, Dr. Li has written or co-written more than a dozen articles on topics including surgical treatments and genetic therapies for liver and pancreatic cancer. A board-certified surgeon, he is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the American Association for Cancer Research. His work has been published in Nature, Gut, JCI Insight and The FACEB Journal.
While Dr. Li performs all procedures at our hospital in Lake County, he also provides surgical consultations at our outpatient care locations in downtown Chicago and the North Shore.
