The National Office Products Industry was founded with the purpose of establishing a continuous flow of industry-supported fund-raising events on behalf of the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute.
History of the National Office Products Industry Campaign
In 1983, a group of corporate leaders banded together to form the National Office Products Council (NOPC),an alliance of industry executives dedicated to the support of City of Hope. From that point forward, the NOPC has led an annual City of Hope fundraising campaign, which has raised well over $62 million over the past 25 years!
As the office products industry campaign celebrates its 26th anniversary, funding has grown to encompass employee giving drives, company hosted outings and events as well as product and customer promotions. In fact, annual industry contributions have increased from $25,000 in 1983 to more than $7.2 million in 2007.
Industry support has also been directly responsible for a number of milestone projects at City of Hope. Nearly a decade ago, industry leaders decided to provide funding instrumental to the creation of the National Office Product’s Industry’s Center for Biomedicine & Genetics (CBG). The CBG is the first biomanufacturing facility at an academic institution capable of producing FDA approved biological therapeutics. This revolutionary idea rapidly transformed the speed by which City of Hope researchers could progress clinical research to actual testing in patients.
In addition, industry legend, Irwin Helford, was instrumental in the construction of the new Helford Clinical Research Hospital at City of Hope, which opened in 2006. This novel facility is considered to be the most advanced cancer treatment hospital in the nation.
Once again, the leaders of the NOPC have turned to the next revolutionary endeavor at City of Hope, The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center for Cancer Immunotherapeutics & Tumor Immunology. Due to the NOPC’s longstanding dedication, innovative leadership and compassionate support, the office products industry is now considered the No. 1 support group within all of City of Hope.
