Timothy Kiong, M.D.
Timothy Kiong, M.D., chose to focus on consultation-liaison psychiatry because he believes strongly in the need to simultaneously address mental health and medical needs. He strives to meet patients where they are emotionally and mentally, and he works to help them be their best selves despite difficult times.
Dr. Kiong is both a compassionate provider and a dedicated teacher. Before he joined the supportive care team at City of Hope in 2023, he practiced as a consultation liaison Psychiatrist between 2020-2023 at Kern Medical in Bakersfield, California, where he served as associate program director of the UCLA-Kern Psychiatry Residency Training Program and co-site director at Kern Medical Center for the University of California Los Angeles Psychiatry Clerkship Program.
At Kern Medical and during his own residency training at the University of Hawaii, he participated in multiple patient-care improvement projects. He helped establish clinics specializing in repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroconvulsive therapy (both therapies for treatment-resistant depression).
