DUARTE, Calif. – City of Hope, a world-renowned independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases, will honor the amika team with its 2020 Spirit of Life® Award. City of Hope’s National Beauty Industry Group will present the award to co-CEOs Nir Kadosh and Shay Kadosh, both of whom will accept the award along with Brand President Chelsea Riggs and Creative Director Vita Raykhman. The Spirit of Life Award is City of Hope’s most prestigious philanthropic honor and is presented annually to an industry leader who has demonstrated outstanding business and philanthropic achievement.

The amika team was joined by some of the top industry beauty influencers and brands on Friday, Jan. 24 for a tour of City of Hope’s comprehensive cancer and research center. Brands like Revolve, Living Proof, Moroccanoil, PRAVANA and influencers Megan Pormer Ph.D., actress, model, @meganpormer, and Henry Vasquez of @hankandhenrybeauty and others all came together to learn more about the impact City of Hope is making across the world.

“As a company, amika has pushed the boundaries with their vibrant marketing and extraordinary vision. They have built a loyal customer base that will follow them as they pioneer innovation within the industry,” said Andrea Courtney, senior director of Corporate Philanthropy at City of Hope. “We had a great tour of the City of Hope facility and are grateful to have the amika team as partners. On behalf of City of Hope, we look forward to helping them bring their fundraising vision to life to raise money for City of Hope’s innovative cancer research.”

amika joins an elite group of industry executives such as George Schaeffer, founder of OPI; John Heffner, CEO of drybar; Artemis Patrick, CMO of Sephora; Sara Jones, SVP and GM of Joico; and other notable leaders.

amika was founded in 2007 in Brooklyn, New York, and offers a full range of professional styling and care products that are curiously different from the rest. Originally created as a tool brand, amika sought to shake up the industry by offering a collection of hair tools inspired by the fashion, music and art scenes of New York City. In 2011, the brand launched their now iconic and best-selling line of styling, treatment and care products. amika’s instantly-recognizable, vibrant packaging delivers an element of delight and has grown a loyal following with its most-loved products, including Perk Up Dry Shampoo, Soulfood Nourishing Mask and the Polished Perfection Straightening Brush. amika is available in professional salons across the U.S. and in 15 countries around the world, as well as offered through select retail partners, including Sephora.

amika will receive The Spirit of Life Award on June 27, 2020, at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada. This year’s event, “Giving is Beautiful,” will celebrate an effort to bring the entire beauty industry together under one roof for a good cause. The event, one of the industry’s best networking evenings, will include a hosted cocktail reception, dinner and entertainment.

About amika

amika means "friend" in Esperanto. Esperanto was an international language created to eliminate barriers between people. The name “amika” is a symbol of our belief in the power of community and the beauty of diversity. A friend to hair, hairstylists, to her, him, you and them. We only make products that make us proud. Highly-effective haircare with a scent you can’t forget, packaging that makes you smile and tools that are your forever ally. Straight out of Brooklyn, where creativity and culture come together, we’re a collective of hairstylists, artists, chemists and product junkies. We like to bend the rules, breaking out of the industry standards that don’t make sense. We were kind and clean before it was a thing. Our products have always been cruelty-free. We are vegetarian-friendly with zero sulfates, parabens, MIT, MCI, phthalates or artificial colors. We exclude over 1,300 questionable ingredients banned by the European Union to ensure our products are safe, non-toxic, yet effective. We're on a quest for good: good for you and good for the planet.
