Gagandeep Singh, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been newly appointed as the chief of Surgical Oncology, head of Liver and Pancreatic Surgery, and director of Surgical Services and the Neuroendocrine Tumor Program at City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix. He has devoted his career to improving the surgical experience for patients and advancing technical innovations in the field of liver and pancreatic surgery.
A seasoned health care leader with more than two decades of experience building outstanding surgical teams, Dr. Singh is excited to return to Phoenix, where he completed part of his medical training. Dr. Singh comes to Phoenix from the main campus in Los Angeles County, where he previously led the nationally recognized Division of Surgical Oncology and served as head of the liver and pancreatic programs at City of Hope Duarte, a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center.
Internationally recognized in his field, Dr. Singh has extensive surgical experience treating cancers of the liver, pancreas and gastrointestinal systems. As one of the highly experienced surgeons on the West Coast for liver resectional surgeries and hepatic artery infusion (HAI) therapy, Dr. Singh is proud to expand access to this leading-edge treatment for Phoenix-area patients with advanced colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver, especially since HAI is currently only available at fewer than 1% of hospitals across the country.

Originally trained at the Tata Memorial Hospital and Cancer Center in Bombay (Mumbai), the largest and busiest center for cancer care in India, Dr. Singh moved westward, receiving training at several internationally recognized cancer centers, including:

- Marion Bessin Liver Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York

- A board-certified surgeon, diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Singh is a renowned expert in his field and was a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network for Hepatobiliary Cancers, the group that sets standard-of-care guidelines for hepatobiliary cancers in the United States.
After beginning his academic career at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, Dr. Singh was appointed director of the Liver and Pancreas Center at the John Wayne Cancer Center Institute in Santa Monica, California, where he also served as chair of the Cancer Committee. At City of Hope Duarte, Dr. Singh spearheaded the liver and pancreatic cancer programs and led the Division of Surgical Oncology to national recognition. Throughout his career, he has been included on multiple lists of "America's Top Surgeons," "Best Doctors of America," "Super Doctors" and "Top Doctors of America."
Research Highlights
As a clinician-scientist, he has published extensively on topics such as complex liver resections for liver metastases, management algorithms for neuroendocrine tumors, vascular reconstructions with complex pancreatic surgery for pancreatic cancer and robotic surgery. His work in robotic surgery has been presented at the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, the Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons and other national conferences.
Dr. Singh is a recognized leader in developing technical innovations in liver and pancreatic surgery. He has collaborated with engineers from the California Institute of Technology and Harvey Mudd College and has several invention disclosures and patents to his name.
