City of Hope cares for patients from prevention through survivorship by pairing our expertise in numerous cancers and conditions with world-class technologies and services.
At any point in their cancer journey, patients can call or chat with a member of our team to make an appointment to meet with a medical oncologist at our Gilbert outpatient care center. The oncologist will discuss whether additional tests or scans may be required, while walking patients through the next steps in their treatment journey. Our cancer experts work with patients to develop a personalized treatment plan based on their specific cancer type and stage.
In addition to offering medical oncology consultations, City of Hope Gilbert delivers on-site chemotherapy treatment. If you require an immediate surgical procedure, radiation therapy or other services or treatments, your clinical team will assist with a referral, which may include services at our City of Hope Phoenix hospital in Goodyear, Arizona. Radiation therapy services also are available at our outpatient care center in North Phoenix.
As part of our offerings at City of Hope Gilbert, our outpatient care center patients have access to genetic counseling as part of our telehealth services, with trained counselors meeting with patients in scheduled video sessions to answer questions and help simplify complex concepts into understandable terms. The goal is to provide clear information about genetic risk factors, address patients’ concerns and determine whether genetic testing may be an option. If our counselors recommend testing, patients are not obligated to have the tests.
Every cancer, like every patient, is different. Advanced genomic testing may help identify DNA alterations that may be driving the growth of a particular tumor. By identifying these gene mutations, we may be able to prescribe targeted therapy drugs designed specifically to counteract changes in a tumor's genomic profile. Genomic testing is not appropriate for every patient, but a medical oncologist may help determine which patients are good candidates for the assessments.
Many patients underestimate how dramatically cancer can affect them, physically and emotionally. An integrative approach to cancer care treats the disease with radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery and other conventional treatments, while also supporting patients’ strength, stamina and quality of life with evidence-informed therapies. At City of Hope Gilbert, patients have access to supportive care services designed to help manage this important aspect of the cancer experience, so they are better able to stay on their treatment regimens and avoid delays or interruptions.
