Where Excellence Comes to Work

We are getting recognized and honored for our unique approach to cancer care, and we are attracting world-class professionals eager to come work with us

City of Hope® is the employer of choice for the best scientific, clinical, technical, administrative and organizational talent. Our commitment to the patient experience is at the center of everything we do, and was the leading force behind our transformation into a national system. As we’ve grown, we’ve stayed true to our mission and focused on our people.

We are committed to attracting and retaining top talent, and we’ve created a working environment and culture to fully maximize that talent in support of our mission.

In 2023, City of Hope was recognized with the Press Ganey Pinnacle of Excellence Award for Employee Experience. This award is given to only three top-performing organizations for consistently high levels of excellence over three years. In addition, our Press Ganey employee engagement survey results have remained strong despite lower engagement scores across the health care industry over the last four years. Our 2023 results showed that City of Hope’s engagement is at the 72nd percentile, significantly above the national benchmark for health care. Results also revealed that more than 85% of employees and physicians are proud to work at City of Hope.

From 2022-2023, the diversity metric within the Press Ganey engagement survey continued a favorable upward trend. All item scores and their average score were above the national benchmark and exceed the 2022 survey results. The new LGBTQ metric scored very favorably and was above the national benchmark. Press Ganey’s assessment of our scores state: “Taken as a whole, these results indicate an overall inclusive and healthy work environment — one that values diverse backgrounds, displays equality and fairness, demonstrates respect, does not tolerate bias or discrimination and is responsive to concerns brought forward.”

Our ongoing efforts to foster diversity were also recognized by DiversityInc, which for the third consecutive year listed City of Hope as one of the nation’s “Top Hospitals and Health Systems” for diversity, equity and inclusion, ranking us second overall and No. 1 in California.

City of Hope was also rated one of the Best Places to Work by The Orange County Business Journal for 2023.
