In August 2023, City of Hope announced the appointment of Marcel van den Brink, M.D., Ph.D., as president of City of Hope Los Angeles and City of Hope National Medical Center, chief physician executive and Deana and Steve Campbell Chief Physician Executive Distinguished Chair in Honor of Alexandra Levine, M.D. Dr. Van den Brink graduated cum laude from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, where he received his medical degree. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in immunology from the same institution.

In April 2023, City of Hope® appointed world-renowned genomics and health disparities expert John D. Carpten, Ph.D., as director of City of Hope comprehensive cancer center, director of Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope and chief scientific officer. Dr. Carpten also holds the Irell & Manella Cancer Center Director’s Distinguished Chair and the Morgan & Helen Chu Director’s Chair of the Beckman Research Institute. He earned his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1994, with a focus on human genetics.
David W. Craig, Ph.D.
Professor and Founding Chair, Department of Integrative Translational Sciences
In June 2023, David W. Craig, Ph.D., joined City of Hope as a professor and founding chair of the newly created Department of Integrative Translational Sciences within Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope. Dr. Craig also serves as deputy director of translational sciences at Beckman Research Institute and associate director of data science for City of Hope. He earned his Ph.D. in bioengineering from the University of Washington.
Adolfo Garcia-Ocaña, Ph.D.

Noted diabetes researcher Adolfo Garcia-Ocaña, Ph.D., joined City of Hope as chair of the Department of Molecular & Cellular Endocrinology within the Arthur Riggs Diabetes & Metabolism Research Institute in March 2023. He also serves as Ruth B. & Robert K. Lanman Chair in Gene Regulation & Drug Discovery Research. Dr. Garcia-Ocaña earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the Universidad Autonoma of Madrid in Spain.
Chandana “Sandy” Lall, M.D., M.B.A.

In July 2023, Chandana “Sandy” Lall, M.D., M.B.A., joined City of Hope as chair of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and vice dean of clinical faculty affairs. Dr. Lall graduated summa cum laude from the University of Delhi, where she earned her medical degree. She earned her master’s degree in business administration from the University of California Irvine, Paul Merge School of Business in 2016.
