Music, Film and Entertainment Industries Spirit of Life® Award Celebration Dinner

Honoring

Coran Capshaw
Thursday, November 2, 2017

Coran Capshaw founded Red Light Management in 1991 at the beginning of his now 25-year role as the personal manager of Dave Matthews Band.  Red Light has grown to become home to one of the largest and most diverse artist rosters in the music industry. Today, Red Light’s managers oversee a roster of approximately 250+ artists. The company remains headquartered in Charlottesville, VA and has offices in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, London, Bristol, Atlanta and Seattle.

Capshaw is a three-time winner of Pollstar’s Personal Manager of the Year award and was recognized by the Music Managers Forum on their International Manager Roll of Honour in 2007. In 2011 the Billboard Touring Awards honored Capshaw with their Humanitarian Award, the first of its kind to be presented to a manager.  He actively supports the management of many acts including Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley and Tiesto. Complimenting the entrepreneurial management approach that Red Light is known for, he created Greenlight and New Era to forge innovative partnerships for events, bands and brands.  In 1998 Capshaw launched Musictoday, an entertainment web commerce company and pioneer in the direct-to-fan model— including integrated ticketing, fan clubs, and merchandise.  He sold Musictoday to Live Nation in 2007.

Red Light’s sister company Starr Hill Presents promotes live music on a regional and national level.   Together with its partners, Starr Hill Presents has an equity position in large-scale music festivals including the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Outside Lands, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Free Press Summer Festival in Houston, and Wanderlust Yoga and Music Festival.

Capshaw owns Charlottesville’s Sprint Pavilion, a 4,000 capacity open-air venue and public park on the pedestrian mall in the center of the city and in 2015, partnered with Live Nation on the 6,800 capacity Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville.

In addition to the music industry, Capshaw is an active real estate developer and he co-founded what became Five Guys Burger and Fries’ largest franchisee.
