Blood Cancer Center at City of Hope Phoenix
Hematologic malignancies are a complex group of cancers—some acute and aggressive, others indolent or chronic—that form in bone marrow, lymph nodes or blood cells. The Hematologic Cancer Center at City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix offers short- and long-term treatment strategies to achieve remission in patients with leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
Blood Cancer Care in Arizona
Led by renowned hematologic oncologist Jeffrey Schriber, M.D., the Hematologic Cancer Program at City of Hope Phoenix offers patients with blood cancers leading-edge treatment options to improve cure rates and enhance treatment tolerability. They include hematopoietic cell transplantation, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immune checkpoint inhibitors and targeted therapy.
Blood Disease Treatment
In addition to hematologic malignancies, the Hematologic Cancer Center at City of Hope Phoenix also treats other conditions associated with these diseases and their therapies, including those listed below.
Amyloidosis: This is a rare condition in which the body produces abnormal proteins called amyloids that may accumulate in organs or other tissues throughout the body. While it is not a cancer, this condition may develop in up to 15% of patients with multiple myeloma.
Graft vs. host disease: This complication may develop after a patient receives new stem cells from another person in an allogeneic transplant. It occurs when immune system cells from the donor attack cells in the recipient, causing symptoms ranging from mild to life-threatening.
Treatment side effects: Cancer treatments may create conditions that compromise the immune system and cause side effects such as nausea, weight loss and pain. As part of our integrative care model, our clinicians may recommend a number of supportive care therapies to help alleviate these conditions.
Blood Cancer Research Innovations
The hematology oncology experts at the Hematologic Cancer Center at City of Hope Phoenix are committed to improving treatment options for blood cancer patients through clinical research. City of Hope clinicians have launched or participated in dozens of trials for leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma. The dynamic combination of experience, clinical research and compassionate care are all part of our commitment to bringing our patients new and innovative cancer treatment options, especially for those with advanced cancer or those who may have exhausted other standard-of-care options.
