We are looking for exceptional people with diverse experiences and abilities to serve in a variety of volunteer roles on our team. These can include greeting, patient transportation, accompanying patients to their appointments and more. The work of providing lifesaving cancer treatments and undertaking groundbreaking research wouldn't be possible without the support of our community. There are many ways for you to partner with us in caring for cancer patients.
Frequently Asked Questions
A minimum commitment of 100 hours is required. Volunteers are assigned to a regular weekly schedule, serving a minimum of four hours per week or shift. Some volunteer opportunities are subject to minor changes. Verification of hours will not be provided prior to reaching 100 hours of service unless otherwise agreed upon in advance.
Volunteers are placed in a variety of settings, including patient and family visitor service areas, surgical waiting rooms, inpatient and outpatient clinics and clerical areas assisting staff. Available positions are listed in our applications.
We are very committed to keeping our patients and our volunteers safe while they are here. Our volunteers commit to one year and 100 hours of service, an in-person interview, completing mandated Employee Health requirements and an orientation, and demonstrating competency in all the regulatory requirements followed by City of Hope. This includes HIPAA and infection prevention training that is revalidated each year.
We are unable to offer group volunteer opportunities at City of Hope Orange County due to infection control standards, as well as to preserve our patients’ confidentiality and ensure their comfort.
We do not assist with arranging shadowing opportunities. If you are interested in shadowing a doctor or nurse, please talk to your academic career advisor.
Volunteer Services does not provide opportunities in research or academic settings. Volunteer Services offers clerical assignments that do not include research experience.

To apply to City of Hope Orange County's volunteer program, you must be at least 15 years of age by the date of orientation.
