I sought a career path that would integrate my interest in science and my desire to work with others, enabling me to help people as they navigate difficult and trying times.
Rusha Bhandari, M.D., M.S., wants to ease the path of children stricken with cancer. Focusing on supportive care she aims to “identify methods to mitigate toxicities from chemotherapy, with the goal of optimizing treatment delivery and improving short and long-term outcomes for our patient population.”
She has spent many years preparing for that role, most recently with a pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. A UCLA graduate, Dr. Bhandari received her medical degree at Saint Louis University and continued her training in pediatrics as a resident at Washington University School of Medicine, St Louis, MO.
Dr. Bhandari has researched several aspects of childhood cancer, including the use of Vitamin D in transplant patients and the importance of cord blood collection. She’s eager to work with the City of Hope team which she praises for its compassionate care and leading-edge research. “I am excited,” she says, “to be a part of such a great institution that supports my academic and clinical interests.”
