Elena Forouhar, M.D., specializes in treating diabetes and endocrine problems. Dr. Forouhar earned her medical doctorate from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran. She focused her career early after graduation on research in the field of novel therapies for diabetes. She served as research coordinator in the Islet Cell Transplantation Project at Tehran University of Medical Sciences before becoming a research associate in the Islet Cell Transplantation Lab at the Leslie & Susan Gonda (Goldschmied) Diabetes & Genetic Research Center at City of Hope. Dr. Forouhar completed her training in internal medicine and endocrinology fellowship at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore after which she returned to City of Hope as assistant clinical professor in the Department of Diabetes, Endocrinolgy & Metabolism and rejoined the clinical team in the Islet Cell Transplantation Program.
Dr Forouhar is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology/diabetes and metabolism. She is an active member of the American Diabetes Association, Endocrine Society and the American Society of Obesity Medicine. Her main areas of interest include both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as obesity and metabolic disorders associated with obesity. She believes in multidisciplinary approach to treat these conditions. She bases her treatment plan on partnering with each individual to enhance their knowledge and awareness to achieve the best individualized care and health goals. She is the director of Diabetes and Cardio Vascular Risk Reduction Program. She also actively participates in multiple ongoing clinical trials for type 1 diabetes, including the Islet Cell Transplantation Program.
