Virginia University of Integrative Medicine (VUIM) celebrated its 2026 Commencement Ceremony, honoring over 250 graduates in acupuncture, herbal medicine and integrative health. City of Hope's Richard T. Lee, M.D., the Cherng Family Director’s Chair of the Center for Integrative Oncology and medical director of Supportive & Integrative Medicine, delivered the keynote address. Dr. Lee spoke about the expanding role of evidence-based integrative medicine in modern healthcare, focusing on prevention, wellness and patient-centered care. VUIM CEO John Yoo praised the graduates for their readiness to integrate traditional practices with modern approaches.

Researchers reported that many bladder cancer abstracts at an ASCO meeting did not adhere to 'language of respect' guidelines. Published in JCO Oncology Advances, City of Hope's Sumanta K. Pal, M.D. and colleagues found non-compliance was higher with non-native English-speaking first authors, single-country collaboration, unmet character counts and unreported funding. Pal and co-authors recommended increased professional education and patient advocate partnerships to improve communication. They emphasized that language impacts patient perception, clinician attitudes and care quality, 1underscoring the guidelines' goal to foster trust and equity in oncology.
