City of Hope Orange County, the most advanced cancer research and treatment organization in Orange County, has released a report that evaluates the cancer incidence rate in people ages 18 and 49 in Orange County and Southern California amid a national epidemic of early-onset cancer diagnoses.

Patients with relapsed blood cancer, like multiple myeloma, face evolving treatment options. City of Hope's Tulio Rodriguez, M.D., explained that relapse reflects the disease's nature. City of Hope's Amrita Krishnan, M.D., affirmed that remissions can last years. Both experts emphasized the need for individualized care, considering newer therapies such as CAR T cell therapy and bispecific antibodies and patient well-being in treatment decisions.

Research indicates tamoxifen, used for hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, does not directly cause weight gain. Instead, factors like chemotherapy side effects, fatigue and treatment-induced menopause often contribute. City of Hope's Wade Smith, M.D., notes this common patient concern. Smith emphasizes a comprehensive approach, including dietitians or supportive care specialists and advises against stopping treatment without medical guidance, stressing tamoxifen's role in reducing recurrence risk.
