Preparing for Your Hospital Stay
We understand planning a hospital stay can feel overwhelming. This guide will help you know what to expect, what to bring, and how to prepare for your stay at City of Hope Orange County's Cancer Specialty Hospital so you and your loved ones feel supported every step of the way.
What to Know About Your Visit
- Enroll in MyCityofHope, your patient portal, to access your records at City of Hope. Take time to review the directions and care information your care team provided you.
- For help understanding deductibles, copays, or financial assistance, contact Financial Counseling at 949-671-4675.
What to Bring With You
View our list of recommended items to bring with you for your hospital stay:
- Comfortable clothing, underwear, socks, robe, pajamas, and slippers.
- Chargers for your phone or other devices.
- Your cellphone and personal entertainment device like an iPad or tablet. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available.
- Toiletries and personal care items (e.g., comb, toothbrush, deodorant).
- Personal aid accessories like glasses, contacts, hearing aids, etc.
- A list of all your current prescription medications and supplements, including the strength and how often you take each medication.
- Your insurance card and photo ID.
- Comfort items such as books, music, or photos.
*Please leave valuables and medications at home.
When You Arrive at Our Irvine Academic Cancer Campus
If you are checking in for a planned hospital admission, please visit the admitting desk inside the hospital. You will visit with the admitting team who will go over expectations, insurance and admitting forms for your visit.
If you are checking in for surgery, please check in with the reception desk inside City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center. The team will direct you to the surgery center.

To create a peaceful and healing environment, all of our hospital rooms are private with their own bathroom and shower. The rooms have natural light with the latest in-room entertainment technology providing cable TV, streaming along with mindfulness and spiritual care content.
We provide customized meals based on your dietary needs.

Providing you and your loved ones the chance to take in fresh air and sunshine.
Chaplains and the fully immersive Wetterau Family Spiritual Care Center are available for prayer, meditation, and support.

Planning For Your Discharge
From the beginning of your stay, your care team will work with you on your discharge plan. Before you leave, your care team will:
- Review your after-visit summary with care instructions.
- Ensure you leave with any new medications in hand should you choose to use our Retail Pharmacy.
- Review your medication list including any new medications.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and provide resources
Case managers can arrange transportation, palliative care, home health services, rehabilitation, or additional support.
