William Tseng, M.D.

Dr. Tseng pursued his medical studies at Northwestern University, followed by a residency in general surgery at University of California San Francisco and a fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Prior to joining City of Hope, he was Associate Professor of Surgery at USC, where he led the Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Surgery Program.

He treats adults with soft tissue sarcoma in the abdomen/retroperitoneum, extremity and trunk. His approach to surgery is aggressive, balances safety and preservation of quality of life. His intention is to reduce patient anxiety by contributing to a better understanding of their disease, and most importantly, by offering hope.

With 60 peer-reviewed publications, over 40 of which are sarcoma, Dr. Tseng continues to advance the understanding and current management of sarcoma, specifically in liposarcoma- a cancer that develops in fatty tissue. He maintains active collaboration with the Sarcoma Unit at the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, Italy and frequently leads research projects on a global scale through the Transatlantic Australasian Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group.

Fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese, Dr. Tseng devotes time away from work to his family (including his dog) and to interests, such as travel, modern art, cinema, collecting vintage toys from the 1980s, and recently martial arts.
