J. Dominic Femino, M.D., finds orthopedic oncology especially gratifying because of the creativity he employs to eradicate cancer while preserving as much of the affected limb as possible. Where once bone cancer nearly always required amputation, today it is possible to save the limb “almost 90% of the time,” he says.
At City of Hope since 2007, Dr. Femino is our chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and associate director of our Musculoskeletal Tumor Program.
Dr. Femino studied at Yale and received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University. He taught clinical orthopedic surgery at University of Southern California (and received the Faculty Teaching Award) before coming to City of Hope.
