High School & Undergraduate Programs
The High School Science and Nutrition Summer Research Program accepts applications from students currently enrolled in high school (9th – 12th grade). Students learn about nutrition, while developing research skills throughout a 4-week course. The program culminates with student research presentations on the final day.
Virtual Education and Research Training
The Virtual Education and Research Training (VERT) program accepts applications from high school juniors and seniors. Students learn about research while developing professional skills through an online 12-week course. Click to learn more about this program.
Volunteer Opportunities At Saturday Science Days
Volunteer for STEP’s Saturday Science Days at City of Hope! Each month, we explore a new science topic through informative lessons and fun, hands-on activities. These classes are intended for students ages 8-13. Volunteers will have the opportunity to run one of the student stations during the event and walk them through a hands-on activity. Students who wish to volunteer must be at least 15 years old and able to volunteer at our main campus in Duarte, CA.

Partnership With The Eugene And Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academy
Since the establishment of the YES2SUCCESS partnership in 2018, STEP has collaborated with the Eugene and Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academy. Through this partnership, STEP assists local underrepresented minority (URM) students with submitting their application to the Roberts Academy.
Students interested in applying for the Roberts Academy, a 10-week paid summer research internship, should visit the Roberts Academy website for specific details.

For elementary school students, STEP provides exciting hands-on science programs like Saturday Science Days and DNA classes during GATE programs.
We run several different programs for local middle school students, including class visits, field trips, Saturday Science Days, and our Junior Medical Investigators summer camp.
