Kumar Gaurav, M.D., joined City of Hope Cancer Center, located in Lake County, Illinois, in October 2021. As an interventional pulmonologist, Dr. Gaurav focuses on the screening, diagnosis and staging of lung cancers, as well as management of malignant airway obstructions. He also provides care to patients who have pulmonary issues, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia and pulmonary hypertension.
Additionally, Dr. Gaurav also focuses on critical care medicine and works in the intensive care unit at City of Hope to provide life support, invasive- monitoring techniques and resuscitation.
Dr. Gaurav earned a medical degree from the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, Nepal. He then came to the United States to complete an internal medicine residency at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. He went on to complete a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Gaurav also finished a fellowship in interventional pulmonology from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Triple board certified in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and interventional pulmonology, Dr. Gaurav has practiced in a variety of health care settings. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Thoracic Society.
