Volunteer Service Requirements
- Commitment to the mission and values of City of Hope
- Adherence to all City of Hope policies and procedures.
- The commitment of 100 hours or six months of service, one four-hour shift per week. (In-person/ Virtual Opportunities)
- Dedication to communicating clearly and timely about planned absences in advance.
- Comply with State, Federal & City of Hope Required Immunizations (In-Person Volunteers Only)
- Participation and completion of all mandatory volunteer onboarding requirements and ongoing annual compliance and safety requirements.
- Age: Minimum age varies per location, please review requirements in opportunities.
- Ability to walk long distances and stand for extended periods.
- The flexibility of movement to enable reaching, pushing, and bending.
- Must be able to complete the onboarding steps within a set timeline.
- Can lift at least 25 pounds.
Onboarding Process
In-Person Onboarding Path
The onboarding process consists of four phases. Our automated system will advance you after completing all required steps in each phase. Onboarding typically takes between 30 and 45 days.
Phase 1- APPLICATION AND CANDIDATE VETTING

Phase 3 – MEDICAL HEALTH CLEARANCE
Verification of required immunizations and vaccinations from the State, Federal & City of Hope is necessary. All uploaded documents must include the Volunteer Name and Date of Birth. Documents may be obtained from your current Health Physician or local School District.
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) –Immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), and TDAP. This can be done by providing medical documentation showing proof of two immunizations for each disease or via Blood titer indicating immunity to MMR.
- Varicella (Chickenpox) This can be done by providing medical documentation showing proof of two immunizations or via Blood, titer indicating immunity to Varicella.
- Tuberculosis (TB Screening) Those with a history of negative TB tests can clear this step by completing the QuantiFERON TB Gold (also known as QFT-G) blood test OR a 2Step TB Skin Test at the City of Hope designated site. Those with a previous positive TB test will need to provide documentation of a positive TB test and medical documentation of a chest radiograph (chest x-ray) report within the last 3 months.
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis Vaccine (Tdap). This can be done by providing medical documentation of Tdap vaccination signing Tdap declination.
- Hepatitis B (Hep B) Attestation or Declinations - Volunteers are asked to attest to having received a Hepatitis B vaccination, or declination.
- Flu Vaccine Status - Medical Documentation of Flu if Volunteering between October and April.
- COVID-19 vaccine (full series) and booster shot. (Varies by State)
