Lung Cancer Care in Atlanta
In 2024, more than 7,300 Georgians will be diagnosed with lung cancer and nearly 3,800 will die from the disease. According to the American Lung Association, Georgia’s rate of new lung cancer cases is significantly higher than the national rate, and only 3.8% of the state’s high-risk patients are screened.
There is work to do. And there is hope. At the City of Hope Atlanta Lung Cancer Center, we share your sense of urgency with same-day screening, consultations in as little as 24 hours and treatment plans within five to seven days after diagnosis. We make access to experts in medical and radiation oncology, thoracic surgery and interventional pulmonology quicker and easier. And we house nationally recognized screening services, advanced diagnostic technologies and emerging treatments and clinical trials in one convenient location to save you time and energy.
What Sets Our Atlanta Lung Cancer Program Apart?
Cancer is personal. That’s why we fight lung cancer with personalized care. Throughout your journey, our Lung Cancer Center team is focused on pinpointing treatment options based on your tumor type, stage, genomic markers and other insights.
Lung Cancer Screening
Early detection matters. If lung cancer is caught before it spreads, the likelihood of surviving five years or more improves to 63%. That’s why our Lung Cancer Center offers qualified patients lung cancer screening with a low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scan, which uses much less radiation than a regular CT scan. City of Hope Atlanta’s screening services earn high marks for medical imaging quality and safety, demonstrated by our American College of Radiology (ACR) Lung Cancer Screening Center recognition.
Four-Day Rapid Lung Nodule Diagnosis Program
As part of our Four-Day Lung Nodule Diagnostic Program, experts put artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted technology and tools to work in determining whether a lung nodule may be malignant and needs immediate attention. They work quickly, with appointments available in as little as 24 hours, in person or by telehealth technology, with results available in as few as four days. Many lung cancer treatment plans begin within 48 hours of diagnosis.
Robotic-Assisted Biopsies
Ion by IntuitiveTM is our newest ally in diagnosing lung cancer sooner, when more treatments are available. Our investment in this minimally invasive, robotic-assisted tool helps doctors obtain biopsies from hard-to-reach places using an ultra-thin catheter with fiber-optic camera to navigate landscapes deep inside the lung.
Advanced Robotic Surgery Technology
Empowered by robotic technology, the thoracic surgeon on your team can perform minimally invasive and lung-sparing surgical procedures. In some cases, a reconstructive surgeon will recommend chest wall reconstruction to help restore physical function and appearance impacted by surgery and/or cancer.
Precision Medicine Drugs
Precision medicine, which personalizes cancer treatment down to the DNA or molecular level, may include treatments like immunotherapy, targeted therapy and other options that offer better outcomes and fewer adverse effects.
Clinical Trials
Research today is the treatment of tomorrow. In pursuit of innovative lung cancer treatments, our Lung Cancer Center team carefully selects clinical trials spanning immunotherapy, chemotherapy, interventional pulmonology and more.
Supportive Care
Quality of life matters. That’s why we pioneered the delivery of integrative care by incorporating supportive services – from pain management and behavioral health to nutritional support and oncology rehabilitation — into each patient’s comprehensive treatment plan.
