Abed Rahman, M.D., M.S., is an interventional pain medicine specialist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago, where he helps patients manage pain they’re experiencing due to their disease or its treatment. His goal as a physician is to improve his patients’ quality of life using targeted, personalized pain management therapies.
Part of City of Hope’s dedicated pain management team. Dr. Rahman works directly with patients diagnosed with a wide range of cancer types. Some of the more common issues he treats include pain affecting patients’ abdomen, hips, spine, knees and other joints.
Board-certified in anesthesiology with a sub-specialty in pain management, Dr. Rahman earned both a master’s degree in hyperbaric medicine and a medical degree at Saba University in the Netherlands. During his anesthesiology and pain residency at Stroger Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Dr. Rahman was named chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in pain at Northwestern University in Chicago.
An avid physician-scientist, Dr. Rahman has published his research in leading journals and presented on it at meetings around the country. He is an instructor at Rush University Medical College in Chicago and a member of multiple professional organizations, including the North American Neuromodulation Society, American Society of Anesthesiology and American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
