Associate Clinical Professor
Binh N. Trinh, M.D., Ph.D., is an accomplished thoracic surgeon whose career has been shaped by a lifelong desire to ease suffering and bring hope to patients. Drawn to medicine by the opportunity to directly impact lives, he found his calling in thoracic surgery — a specialty he describes as both high risk and high reward, combining advanced technology with meaningful patient outcomes. His commitment to cancer care began early in his career as he sought to contribute to solutions for lung cancer.
Dr. Trinh’s extensive expertise includes minimally invasive thoracic surgery, robotic approaches, lung cancer treatment, lung transplantation, airway and esophageal conditions, and complex thoracic diseases. He is especially proud of his service to veterans at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he has cared for a population with high needs and deep resilience. His dedication to global health is reflected in his ongoing collaboration with physicians in Vietnam, helping build and mentor their developing lung transplant program.
A strong advocate for patient-centered care, Dr. Trinh emphasizes the importance of understanding each patient’s language, background, and beliefs to tailor care thoughtfully. Outside the operating room, he enjoys listening to music, playing guitar, and spending time with his family. In addition to English, he speaks Vietnamese.
