Charles B. Nguyen, M.D. is a nationally recognized medical oncologist who specializes in cancers of the urinary system including prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular cancers. He works closely with a team of other specialists and the tumor board to provide comprehensive care. Dr. Nguyen incorporates genetic testing to help personalize treatments based on the biology of the cancer.
Dr. Nguyen is a recipient of the prestigious Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award to develop new immunotherapy treatments for aggressive forms of prostate cancer. He has also received research funding to develop new therapies for rare kidney cancers (non-clear cell kidney cancer) and study gut bacteria in kidney cancer. Dr. Nguyen serves an investigator on several clinical trials and collaborates with investigators across the City of Hope network to bring exciting trials to patients in Orange County. His work has been published widely in peer-reviewed journals such as Clinical Cancer Research and Journal of Clinical Oncology Precision Oncology. Dr. Nguyen regularly gives educational talks on prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers across the country.
Dr. Nguyen obtained his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He then completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Earning extensive honors for his work, Dr. Nguyen was selected for the 2022 ASCO/AACR Methods in Clinical Cancer Research workshop and received the V.A. Outstanding Graduating Resident in Inpatient Medicine award. Additionally, he was awarded the Professional Educator Appreciation and Recognition (PEAR) Award and membership in the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Nguyen is fluent in Vietnamese.
