Joo Y. Song, M.D.
- Hematopathology
- Clinical Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Pathology Chief, Division of Hematopathology
- Associate Director, Toni Stephenson Lymphoma Center
Joo Song, M.D, is Vice Chair of Pathology and Chief of the Division of Hematopathology at City of Hope National Medical Center, where he also serves as Clinical Professor and as Associate Director of the Toni Stephenson Lymphoma Center. His clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis of hematologic malignancies, with particular expertise in B-cell, T-cell, and Hodgkin lymphomas. He integrates morphology, immunophenotyping, and molecular and genomic data to arrive at clinically actionable diagnoses, and he has a long-standing interest in the rare and diagnostically challenging entities that sit at the boundaries of current lymphoma classification.
His research centers on the genomic and molecular characterization of lymphomas, with the goal of refining classification and identifying biomarkers that inform prognosis and therapy. He is an active investigator within the Lymphoma/Leukemia Molecular Profiling Project (LLMPP) and serves as Pathology Chair of the SWOG Lymphoma Committee, where he oversees central pathology review and correlative studies across national cooperative-group trials. His work bridges diagnostic hematopathology and translational research, with an emphasis on linking genomic findings back to the morphologic and clinical features pathologists encounter.
