Michael Zgoda, M.D., M.B.A., C.P.E., joined City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix in 2023. In his role as an interventional pulmonologist, Dr. Zgoda focuses his practice on the diagnosis, staging and management of malignancies in the lung and other non-malignant disorders of the lung and pleura. He offers patients leading-edge minimally invasive techniques, including robotic bronchoscopy and photodynamic therapy. Dr. Zgoda works with a multidisciplinary team of specialists dedicated to the management of lung cancers and other thoracic malignancies, including metastic disease.
Passionate about improving survival outcomes for lung cancer, Dr. Zgoda is a member of the Lung Nodule Analysis and Surveillance (LUNAS) Care Coordination program at City of Hope, designed to help optimize care for patients with lung nodules detected by low dose computed tomography (LDCT) or incidentally.
Dr. Zgoda earned his medical degree and medical doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine then completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. To further advance his training, Dr. Zgoda attended Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard School of Medicine affiliate, for specialized procedural training for interventional pulmonary medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and sleep medicine and a Professor of Medicine from the University of Arizona.
Dr. Zgoda has authored and coauthored numerous studies and publications and patented technology for a percutaneous tracheostomy balloon apparatus. He maintains membership in several professional organizations, including the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Association of Bronchology/World Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.
