Nathan Neufeld, D.O., is chief of supportive care medicine at City of Hope® Cancer Center Atlanta, where he also serves as medical director of Pain Services and Supportive Therapies and an interventional pain management specialist. Inspired to pursue a career in pain management by his mother’s battle with breast cancer, Dr. Neufeld helps patients manage pain related to their disease or its treatments and maintain their quality of life throughout their cancer journeys.
Dr. Neufeld’s passion for helping people is central to his work as an interventional pain management specialist. He is an expert in advanced techniques, including intrathecal pain pumps, spinal stimulation, nerve blocks and kyphoplasty, and a longtime advocate for advancing patient safety and quality improvement.
After earning his medical degree at Touro University Nevada in Henderson, Nevada, Dr. Neufeld completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation — and was named chief resident — followed by fellowships in both patient safety and quality leadership and interventional pain medicine, all at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Neufeld worked on improving hospital paperwork, earning him a Best Paper Award from the Association of Academic Physiatrists. Dr. Neufeld is the author or co-author of multiple articles, editorials and a book chapter on osteopathic manipulation for musculoskeletal pain. He has presented on his research both nationally and internationally and has served as an adviser to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Medical Quality, Dr. Neufeld is also a member of the Medical Association of Georgia Foundation’s advisory committee to help fight the opioid epidemic in his home state.
